Monteiasi in the province of Taranto: a village of Albanian origin between Taranto and Grottaglie, with its churches and a countryside of olive groves and vineyards.
History
Monteiasi is a small town of the Tarantine hinterland, also among the hamlets repopulated in the fifteenth century by the Albanian exiles who reached Puglia after the Ottoman advance in the Balkans.
What to see
The town keeps the quiet character of the area's farming centres, with the historic churches and the traditional houses of the old core.
Its position, halfway between Taranto and Grottaglie, makes it a handy stop for those heading towards the city of ceramics. The surrounding territory is cultivated with olive groves and vineyards.
