Torricella in the province of Taranto: the farming village and its marina with Torre Ovo, among the finest beaches of the Tarantine Ionian coast.
History
Torricella is a small town of the Ionian coast south-east of Taranto, agricultural and quiet in character, owing its tourist renown above all to the fine stretch of shoreline that belongs to it.
What to see
Torre Ovo. Torricella's marina is dominated by the ancient coastal tower of Torre Ovo, giving its name to one of the Ionian arc's most appreciated beaches: limpid waters, seabeds alternating sand and rock, and a pleasant promenade for evening strolls.
Off Torre Ovo lies a site of great interest for lovers of snorkelling and diving: the so-called "petrified forest", a cluster of underwater monoliths formed over millennia.
The village. The town keeps the compact atmosphere of the southern Tarantine farming villages, with its churches and traditional houses. The hamlet of Monacizzo is a small village of medieval origins that deserves a stop.
