Monteparano in the province of Taranto: one of the province's smallest towns, of Albanian origin, among Arbëreshë traditions and countryside.
History
Monteparano is one of the smallest towns of the province of Taranto and belongs to the hamlets repopulated in the fifteenth century by the Albanian exiles who reached Puglia after the Ottoman invasion of the Balkans.
What to see
The town keeps the compact character of the small hinterland centres, with the parish church and the traditional urban fabric. Nearby lies the Sanctuary of Santa Maria della Camera, shared with the neighbouring towns.
The surrounding territory is agricultural, marked by olive groves and vineyards. Monteparano is well visited as part of a tour of the southern Tarantine Arbëreshë villages.
